WORLD MENOPAUSE DAY
Aged between 40 and 55?
Learn how to spot the signs of menopause and act quickly.
Although some women may experience a premature onset of menopause under the age of 40, the average ages tend to be between 45 and 55 years.
If not addressed early, it can lead to significant health consequences. Additionally, being checked could explain why you may be finding it difficult to lose weight or maybe experiencing unexplained fatigue.
Common symptoms may include:
- Hot flushes
- Mood Swings
- Disrupted sleep
- Weight gain
- Bladder incontinence
- Hair loss
- Vaginal dryness
- A reduced libido
These symptoms are especially difficult to deal with at work as they may cause discomfort and tiredness.
World Menopause Day is a worldwide awareness call for women who face health issues when approaching, during and beyond the menopause.
Serious health conditions need to be assessed during the premenopausal and postmenopausal period to access the risk of cardiovascular disease through a reduction in estrogen and brittle bones (osteoporosis).
Diet and exercise play an important role in decreasing the health risks caused by the menopause. Consuming essential fatty acids found in foods such as fish, avocado, chia seeds, walnuts, and kidney beans will aid in hormone regulation. Exercise, physical activity and consuming adequate calcium and vitamin D will reduce the risk of developing the weakening of bones (osteoporosis).
